What customers say
★★★★★ 4.94 average · 913 reviews★★★★★“Great tasting and quality [plant] protein.”
★★★★☆“I am not really a fan of protein powder, but the texture was good. The Salted Caramel is ok. The Vanilla I mixed with Milo and it was quite nice. The chocolate sample I had was not to my liking. To be fair, I don’t usually like any of the chocolate protein powders.”
★★★★★“The chocolate is definitely my favourite as I don’t have a sweet tooth. I use the protein powder as a top up or a quick boost when I feel I need to hit my protein goals.”
★★★★★“Great produce fantastic taste.”

What is plant protein?
Plant protein is protein that comes from plants rather than animals. You get it from foods like lentils, chickpeas, tofu, oats, nuts and seeds, and from concentrated powders made from peas, faba beans, rice, soy or hemp.
Like all protein, it's made of amino acids. Your body can make some of them, but nine are "essential", which means you have to get them from food. Plant foods contain all nine, though in different amounts. That's why eating a variety of plant proteins across the day works well.
Is plant protein a complete protein?
Some plant foods, like soy and quinoa, are complete on their own. Most others are lower in one or two essential amino acids. Combining sources, such as a legume with a grain, fills the gaps. You don't need to eat them at the same meal. A varied diet across the day does the job. Our powder builds this combination into a single serve with pea, faba and rice.
Common sources of plant protein
You can build a high-protein diet from plants alone. Here are the main sources and what they're good for.
| Source | Type | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Lentils, chickpeas and beans | Legumes | Affordable and versatile. Rich in lysine, so they pair well with grains. |
| Tofu, tempeh and edamame | Soy | Soy is a complete protein on its own. |
| Oats, rice and quinoa | Grains and seeds | Lower in lysine, but a good partner for legumes. Quinoa is a complete protein. |
| Nuts, seeds and nut butters | Nuts and seeds | Add protein, healthy fats and texture. Check allergens. |
| Pea, faba and rice protein powder | Concentrated powder | A convenient way to add protein to shakes, oats and baking. This is what Green Choice is made from. |
Curious about faba beans? Read why we chose faba bean and whether faba bean is a complete protein. For pea protein specifically, see our pea protein guide.

Plant protein vs animal protein
Both can help you meet your protein needs. The differences are mostly in the amino acid mix, what else comes with the protein, and your personal preferences. Figures vary by food and brand, so check labels.
| Plant protein | Animal protein (meat, eggs, dairy) | |
|---|---|---|
| Essential amino acids | All nine across a varied diet; single sources can be lower in one or two | Usually all nine in one food |
| Leucine | Generally lower, so total protein intake matters | Generally higher, especially whey |
| What comes with it | Fibre, plant compounds and unsaturated fats | Varies: iron, B12 and calcium in some foods, saturated fat in others |
| Dairy and lactose | None | Present in dairy |
| Environmental footprint | Generally lower. See our footprint comparison | Generally higher |
| Best for | Plant-based, dairy-free or flexitarian diets | Anyone who eats animal foods |
Research suggests plant and animal protein can both support muscle when total daily protein is matched. If you follow a fully plant-based diet, an accredited practising dietitian can check you're getting nutrients like vitamin B12, iron and zinc.
Is plant protein enough? Common concerns answered
| Concern | The short answer |
|---|---|
| "Will I get enough protein?" | Yes, if you eat enough in total. Australian guidelines suggest about 0.75g per kg of body weight a day for adult women and 0.84g for men, and more for some active people and older adults. |
| "Is it harder to digest?" | It depends on the person. Legumes can take some getting used to. Start with smaller serves of powder and build up. See how to introduce a new protein powder. |
| "Does it taste chalky?" | Taste and texture vary by brand and by person. Our powders are formulated for a smooth shake, and the $9.99 sample pack lets you decide for yourself. |
| "Is it expensive?" | Our powder works out to about $3.50 per serve for 34.9g of protein, or less in bundles. |
How to choose a plant protein powder
- Check protein per 100g. It's the fairest way to compare brands with different serve sizes. Ours is about 70g per 100g.
- Look at the sources. A blend of legume and grain proteins gives a more balanced amino acid profile than most single sources.
- Read the ingredient list. Look for what's added besides protein: sugar, sweeteners, gums and flavours.
- Check the sugar. Ours is 2.2g to 4.8g per serve, from cane sugar with stevia.
- Look at where it's grown and made. We use at least 84% Australian ingredients and manufacture in Victoria.
- Try before you commit. A sample pack costs $9.99, and our taste test can help you pick a flavour. Browse our full plant-based protein range.

Plant protein FAQs
What is plant protein?
Plant protein is protein from plant sources such as legumes, grains, seeds and nuts. It's available as whole foods like lentils and tofu, or as concentrated powders made from peas, faba beans, rice, soy or hemp.
Is plant protein as good as animal protein?
For meeting your protein needs, yes, as long as you eat enough in total and include a variety of sources. Animal proteins are generally higher in leucine, so people relying on plant protein may want to pay a little extra attention to total intake.
Is plant protein a complete protein?
Some plant foods, like soy and quinoa, are complete on their own. Others are lower in one or two essential amino acids, so combining sources across the day, or using a blend like ours, gives a more balanced profile.
Can you build muscle with plant protein?
Research suggests plant protein can support muscle building when total daily protein is matched and you train regularly. Whey is higher in leucine, so some people choose a slightly larger serve of plant protein.
How much plant protein do I need per day?
Australian guidelines recommend about 0.75g per kg of body weight for adult women and 0.84g for adult men, and more for some active people and older adults. An accredited practising dietitian can give you a personal target.
What are the best plant protein sources?
Lentils, chickpeas, beans, tofu, tempeh, edamame, oats, quinoa, nuts, seeds and plant protein powders are all good options. Mixing them across the day gives the best amino acid variety.
Is plant protein powder healthy?
It can be a convenient way to top up your protein alongside a balanced diet. Check the label for protein per 100g, added sugars and extras, and treat powder as a supplement to whole foods rather than a replacement.
Is your plant protein powder gluten free and dairy free?
Yes, our protein powders are dairy free and gluten free. They contain pea and are made in a facility that also processes milk, soy, gluten and egg, so speak to your doctor if you have a severe allergy. See our gluten-free range and lactose-free range.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your location, and orders over $150 ship free. Orders are usually dispatched via Australia Post within 1–3 business days. See our shipping policy.
Can I try it before buying a full pouch?
Yes. The 3-flavour sample pack costs $9.99 and includes Chocolate, Vanilla and Salted Caramel.
