Faba bean isn't the protein source most people expect to see on an Australian supplement label, and that's exactly why we think it's worth explaining rather than just listing it.
The problem we were solving

Single-source plant proteins each carry a gap — pea runs light on sulphur amino acids, rice runs light on lysine, and taste and texture challenges compound depending on which crop you lean on alone. Rather than pick one source and market around its strengths while quietly ignoring its weaknesses, we built the blend around covering those gaps deliberately.
Why faba bean specifically earned a place

• It's a nitrogen-fixing legume, meaning it naturally improves soil health as it grows — a genuine agricultural sustainability advantage covered in more depth in an upcoming post this week.
• It grows well in Australian conditions, supporting the local, Australian-grown sourcing that sits behind our 84%+ Australian ingredients standard.
• It adds a different amino acid and textural contribution than pea or rice alone, rounding out the blend rather than duplicating what's already covered.
What this means for the finished product

The pea, rice and faba bean blend in every GC Proteins pouch isn't three ingredients chosen for a longer ingredient list — it's a considered answer to the amino acid, taste and sourcing questions covered across this week's and last week's posts. If you've read the FODMAP, allergen or amino acid posts earlier this week, you've already seen the reasoning; this is simply where it all points.
If you haven't tried all three flavours yet, the Sample Pack is the easiest way to taste the result of that blend for yourself.
