How We Rank the Best-Tasting Protein Powder in Australia: 2026 Method

This page exists because a genuine ranking needs a stated methodology, not just a list — here's exactly what we evaluate and why, so any ranking claim on the site can be checked against real criteria rather than taken on faith.

The four criteria we actually test

Taste-testing flat-lay with several shake glasses and blank scorecards

Base flavour authenticity — does it taste like real vanilla, chocolate or caramel, or an artificial approximation of one?

Texture and mouthfeel — chalkiness, grittiness and how well it dissolves, tested with a standard shaker method (see Tuesday's aftertaste post).

Aftertaste — how the flavour lingers or fades after swallowing, tested cold with a consistent liquid base.

Sweetness balance — whether sweetness feels proportionate or like it's compensating for an underlying flavour problem.

Why this matters for a ranking claim

‘Best tasting’ is a claim we take seriously enough to define — a ranking without stated criteria is just an opinion dressed up as a fact. Publishing the method is what lets you, or anyone else, actually evaluate whether the ranking holds up.

What this means for GC Proteins specifically

The full GC Proteins range standing together

We apply the same four criteria to our own three flavours as we would to any other product — Chocolate, Vanilla and Salted Caramel each have genuine strengths and a genuine target drinker, covered in detail in Tuesday's taste-test comparison, rather than a single flavour being crowned the universal winner.

Taste testing is conducted with a standard shaker method, cold liquid, and a mixed group of tasters rather than a single opinion, to reduce individual palate bias as much as reasonably possible for a blog-level comparison.
